Rin Ramirez is a queer, nonbinary, multidisciplinary artist from Puerto Rico. They have lived in New Orleans for ten years now and originally moved here to study Film at Loyola University. They work with mediums such as: photography, film, writing and print making. During their residency, they want to plan out and begin executing the creation of a photo essay, which will be about Black and Hispanic people’s influence on what we call Mardi Gras and Puerto Rico calls Carnaval, primarily focused on the tradition of Vejigantes of Puerto Rico and Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Through photo and video, they plan to highlight these traditions and the people who keep them alive.
