Inspiring Health Justice
A collaborative art-science scholar-in-residence program
Inspiring Health Justice is a new partnership between Dillard University’s Minority Health and Health Equity Research Center and A Studio in the Woods.
The aim of this program is to bring the arts and public health together to address our region’s longstanding health disparities through creative, cross-disciplinary mentorship to focus the energy and passion of Dillard art students towards fostering health equity.
For the 2022-23 academic year Dr. Robert Maupin will work Dillard faculty members John Barnes and Raymond A. Vrazel Jr. and students Breah Broussard, Tia Green, Olivia Johnson, and Gabriel Prewitt.
During the 2021-22 academic year Dr. Kristi Anderson worked with Dillard faculty members Dr. Nancy Dixon and Dr. Zhang Wen and Dillard Vocal and English students Karen Grant-Anderson, Zaria Ivory, William Shelton, and Nailah Starks. Together they created a program that highlighted the talents and gifts of the students while providing the audience and Dillard community with an understanding of how health disparities and inequities are situated within many of our communities.
In Spring semester 2021 Dr. Sacoby Wilson worked remotely with Dillard faculty members John Barnes and Keith Morris and four Dillard independent study students: Aaliyah Arnold, Hildevert Promesse Lafeuille, Jermaine Robinson, and Juwan Saint Charles to create film and art works about COVID-19 and health disparities in our region.
