Stephanie Baran received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with a specialty in race, ethnicity, sex and gender cultural practices. She currently teaches at Xavier University of Louisiana. Her work focuses on the varieties of inequalities and cultural habits that exist within the United States. While research is important to her, she also is passionate about teaching students the wonderful, wild world of Sociology. She is incredibly passionate about New Orleans and the wild array of socio-historical and cultural practices. Her Book “Intersections of Race, Class and Precarity: Navigating Insecurities in an American City” was published by Rowman and Littlefield, January 2022. Currently, she is working on a book manuscript to be published by Bloomsbury Publishing about New Orleanian death practices. She lives in New Orleans with her cats, Lucifer and Mabel and her partner, Spencer.
