Dr. Andrew Ward is a scholar of political science, international development, and religious studies at Tulane University whose work explores the intersection of ideology, power, and environmental sustainability. His teaching and public scholarship—including presentations before international therapeutic communities and scholars of religion and society and politics—examine the sociopolitical impacts of rising Christian Nationalism, particularly its influence on climate policy. During his time in the Woods, Dr. Ward will analyze the environmental implications of Dominion Theology, an ideological movement that frames ecological stewardship as antithetical to divine authority. Drawing on political theology, environmental justice, and discourse analysis, he will produce an academic article, prepare a conference presentation, and develop curricular materials that confront this urgent and under-explored threat to ecological resilience—particularly in the context of Louisiana’s vulnerable coastline.
