María Gabriela Merlinsky is a sociologist from the University of Buenos Aires, PhD in Geography, University Paris 8 and PhD in Social Sciences, UBA. She is Professor and Senior Researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina, based at the Gino Germani Research Institute. For the last twenty years she has conducted research on environmental issues in Latin America, particularly on environmental conflicts, artivism, environmental justice and climate politics. Her main fields of study are political ecology, urban studies and environmental sociology. She is the author of Política, derechos y justicia ambiental. El conflicto del Riachuelo’ (2013, Fondo de Cultura Económica), of ’Toda ecología es política. Las luchas por el derecho al ambiente en busca de alternativas de mundos’ (2021, Editorial Siglo Veintiuno) the series Cartografías del conflicto ambiental en Argentina (2020, 2016,2014; CICCUS/CLACSO) and Arte y Ecología Política (with Paula Serafini)

While in residence she will collaborate with Tulane scholar Amalia Leguizamón on a book project that bridges US environmental sociology and Latin American political ecology.
