Kids in the Woods Camp at Home
May 18, 2021
We can’t host our normal Kids in the Woods Summer Camp this year, but thanks to New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and Ruth U. Fertel Foundation we are thrilled to have been able to provide 50 ‘camp-at-home’ boxes to 3rd and 4th grade students at Homer Plessy Community Schools! Created by summer camp instructor Renee Anderson, the kits included a week’s worth of activities for youth to learn and make art about the bottomland hardwood forest. Activities include: collage journals, seed sprouting, stick painting, build your own clay forest, red beans and rice music shakers, plant drawing, Mike C. Mahoney’s Beginners Zine to Birding in New Orleans, and more! Fun fact: Homer Plessy Community Schools has taken over the campus of our founder Lucianne Carmichael’s beloved McDonough #15, a beautiful continuation of her educational legacy.
